URANTIA READERS INTERNATIONAL QUARTERLY REPORT
July, August, September, 2008

Dear Urantia Readers,

Of the 400 plus Urantia web-sites presently operating, most are actively engaged in conveying informational
material that the site managers deem appropriate and beneficial to the experience of the reader – that is
certainly what we are about. The hope among the web designers and contributors is undoubtedly to advance
the readership, to present the “Book” to the world in an effort to displace inferior philosophies by exposing
the planet to the highest information available on any continent – material presented to uplift humanity by
providing the widely ubiquitous concept of the Fatherhood of God and its corollary the Brotherhood of Man.
This is the theme presented to all evolutionary spheres harboring civilized human life. What and how to
present anything related to this theme is what these informational sites are all about.

The URI is dedicated to maintaining an organization to advance the revelation through the sales of books,
through the establishment of reading/discussion groups and personal interaction, be it with the media, group
presentations, or just to acquaintances on a one to one basis. All of us that are truly appreciative of the
revelation can do something to advance the cause. If we cannot bring at least one other person into the
“Book” each year  we are not paying much attention to the revelation we have so generously been given. To
have received information exalting the human experience, from Beings who watched our universe come into
existence and not do something with that information is the ultimate act of defiance. If one cannot discern the
import of this supernal material through his/her own innate powers of reasoning they seemingly lack the
ability of intelligent discernment and are evidently too immature for the Urantia revelation. They are
essentially afraid to be in the forefront of a significant planetary movement – for security sake they are
waiting for the numbers of social approval. When I once told a Catholic friend of mine about the Urantia book,
his callous response was: “I prefer to hold to the tried and the true”. And this seems to typify an average
response among the citizenry. To many of us, this attitude of indifference to check out the messages of such
magnanimous beings, (purportedly from another dimension), is nothing short of ego myopia. What kind of
person has so little curiosity and is so self centered that a message from Jesus has no meaning to them; not
even enough curiosity to read one of the messages to make a determination of its validity. It is clear that
some of our contemporaries have cultivated the attitude that: How dare God disturb my complacency –
disrupt my life with details of His universe.

I know of one person that employed the convoluted rationale that he had to consult arcane material like the
Koran, The Upanishads, and the Bhagavad-Gita in order to challenge the truths in the Urantia book, which is
pretty much like consulting the High Priest Caiaphas at the time of Jesus to determine whether Jesus was
whom he professed to be. How in the world does the Hindu, and Muslim belief in reincarnation validate or
invalidate the truths of the Urantia book. The book informs us that acceptance is to be based entirely upon
our own inherent powers of reasoning. Consulting Muhammad’s teachings is not going to do us any good on
this one, or on anything else for that matter.

If anyone of normal intelligence and open-mindedness STUDIES the Urantia revelation, while he may not
accept its origin as super-human, he has to concede that even in his own eyes, while the source might be
questionable the teaching and data presented are of incomparable quality and as such unmatchable in the
archives of all historical information, placing it in a unique category of its own; something that requires
investiga- tion on the part of any genuine truth seeker. Not everyone believes in the validity of the revelation.
Albeit, there certainly exists a plethora of scientists, dogmatic religionists, and secularist, who would draw to
this conclusion, but such an assertion logically requires that to make a decision as to the “books”
genuineness, one must first read the “Book” – something that many of those above have failed to do.

In view of this divine revelation, for one to say he is a Catholic, Jew, or Protestant and is   satisfied where he’s
at, is just displaying an attitude of blatant ignorance, no different than that of the Sanhedrin during the times
of Jesus. My consciousness demands that I read the book, what others do is up to them, but what’s so
disturbing is: with all the   different religions out there why would someone reject the best – the latest
revelatory material presented to the planet, and from the highest sources available for such material?
Several things come to mind as to why more people aren’t gravitating to the “Book”:

(Pg. 2085-L) “It is all too true that such a church would not have survived unless there had been men in the
world who preferred such a style of worship. Many spiritually indolent souls crave an ancient and authoritative
religion of ritual and sacred traditions.”

(Pg. 2083-3) “Only when man has become sufficiently disillusioned by the sorrowful disappointments
attendant upon the foolish and deceptive pursuits of selfishness, and subsequent to the discovery of the
barrenness of formalized religion, will he be disposed to turn wholeheartedly to the gospel of the kingdom,
the religion of Jesus of Nazareth.”

(Pg.1729) “Until the races become highly intelligent and more fully civilized, there will persist many of those
childlike and superstitious ceremonies which are so characteristic of the evolutionary religious practices of
primitive and backward peoples. Until the human race progresses to the level of a higher and more general
recognition of the realities of spiritual experience, large numbers of men and women will continue to show a
personal preference for those religions of authority which require only intellectual assent, in contrast to the
religion of the spirit, which entails active participation of mind and soul in the faith adventure of grappling with
the rigorous realities of progressive human experience.”

“The acceptance of the traditional religions of authority presents the easy way out for man’s urge to seek
satisfaction for the longings of his spiritual nature. The settled, crystallized, and established religions of
authority afford a ready refuge to which the distracted and distraught soul of man may flee when harassed by
fear and tormented by uncertainty. Such a religion requires of its devotees, as the price to be paid for its
satisfactions and assurances, only a passive and purely intellectual assent.”
“And for a long time there will live on earth those timid, fearful and hesitant individuals who will prefer thus to
secure their religious consolations, even though, in so casting their lot with the religions of authority they
compromise the sovereignty of personality, debase the dignity of self-respect, and utterly surrender the right
to participate in that most thrilling and inspiring of all possible human experiences: the personal quest for
truth, the exhilaration of facing the perils of intellectual discovery, the determination to explore the realities of
personal religious experience, the supreme satisfaction of experiencing the personal triumph of the actual
realization of the victory of spiritual faith over intellectual doubt as it is honestly won in the supreme
adventure of all human existence—man seeking God, for himself and as himself, and finding him.”

“The religion of the spirit means effort, struggle, conflict, faith, determination, loyalty, and progress. The
religion of the mind—the theology of authority—requires little or none of these exertions from its formal
believers. Tradition is a safe refuge and an easy path for those fearful and halfhearted souls who instinctively
shun the spirit struggles and mental uncertainties associated with those faith voyages of daring adventure
out upon the high seas of unexplored truth in search for the farther shores of spiritual realities as they may
be discovered by the progressive human mind and experienced by the evolving human soul.”

(Pg. 1732) “The religions of authority can only divide men and set them in conscientious array against each
other; the religion of the spirit will progressively draw men together and cause them to become
understandingly sympathetic with one another”

So, what can be summarily deduced from the above?
1.        Indolent souls prefer a religion of sacred traditions and ritual.
2.        Until humanity becomes more intelligent and fully civilized there will persist the childlike and
superstitious ceremonies of backward people.
3.        The acceptance of traditional religious authority presents an easy way out.
4.        Timid and fearful souls will prefer this type of religious consolation for a long time to come.
The above four paragraphs comprised a portion of two discourses on religion presented by Jesus to the
Apostles while fleeing through Northern Galilee. (Paper 155)

No individual should ever be afraid of having to change his belief system. Jesus proclaimed that one should:
“Follow the truth wherever it may lead”. There is an element of unreality to people who refuse to alter their
beliefs when reality dictates otherwise; it is the religious coward’s philosophical way out of the real world. It is
called denial – reality denial. The Christian scripture slave is the ultimate religious coward in that they
abnegate truth; they simply refuse to alter their thinking to embrace new insights when those insights are
evident to everyone else. When the majority of people in any group come to accept a subjective experience
they often assume it becomes an objective reality since almost  everyone believes it – not so; take for
example the theory of reincarnation which predominantly prevails in Eastern philosophies, yet no matter what
percentage of a population embrace an idea, it still may be subjective. Jesus died on the cross to save our
sins – perfect example.

So in the case of the Christian, who believes in the authority of Biblical scripture as the absolute word of God,
well let’s just say he is greatly restricting his thinking by denying a DIFFERENT reality - that is, until the
source of their mistaken idea makes a definitive statement that the idea is not real. Jesus has made such
statements recorded in the Urantia book regarding the over all truth of scripture (Pg.1776 – Jesus’ talk with
Nathaniel regarding scripture), but unfortunately since the Urantia book is not (according to Scripturist) the
word of God; their thinking therefore is forever fixated on the unreal.

In each of our reports we like to present a particular part of a theme (advancement of brotherhood) from the
book as it relates to today’s culture. For example, we have mentioned Jesus’ discussions with Andrew on the
fallibility of scripture (July-August), secularism and the problems confronting Christianity (Pg.2082 – Nov. -
Dec.), and how it is affecting today’s societies; where we are headed if we don’t change our course. There
seems to be some thematic instruction that runs through the Urantia book, themes of love,  brotherhood,
character development, and SERVICE to name but a few; yet just as importantly it stresses reality contact
and an appreciation for life and our participation in it. And, the understanding that no matter how perverse
and degenerative the world becomes, it’s all apart of an overall plan which eventually gets work out –
resolved the way the Deities desire. If the world is bent on self destruction there will be good that emerges
from the destruction, if not to our world to all the other worlds in our universe.

One of our themes in this report is to point out the need on the part of every dedicated reader to do
something to advance the revelation, thereby advancing the brotherhood concept. By bringing your friends
to the URI you can let us work on them to keep them interested in what most of us believe to be the most
important book on the planet.

We have already signed up for the book fair in November and are about ready to order the books. We
usually sell between 30 and 40 books but with the cost being so high, this will probably be our last year. Our
personal expenses are about $500 and the booth is $500; not exactly like the good old days.

We want to thank Martha Parnell of Winter Park, FL and Marilyn Braniff of Eaglewood, CO for their donations
for library books, which we will be more than happy to place. To get the ball rolling in your area you must first
contact the head librarian in your community and ask them if they would be interested in a book that has sold
over a million copies and has been in continuous publication for over 50 years. It is unique in its field
touching on a variety of disciplines, such as science, astronomy, religion, etc. (I don’t always mention that it is
a revelation, because of a possible negative connotation that Jesus gave us the book, and that is not
credible to many) Then if willing to accept the book you must call Chicago and they will send it direct to the
librarian. Once it is in the system they will usually accept future books from you personally. We will either take
them in personally or have them sent directly from the Foundation – Their phone number is: 888 872-6842 –
Tamara Wood is in charge of book distribution. Any monies forwarded to us, we of course, will place the book
for you in one of our previously selected libraries.

Before I mention the barbeque (June 7th – Jupiter) I have to break away to watch Herrick parachute into the
Roger Dean Baseball Stadium in exactly 30 minutes. Paul has a mini- biography on our site that explains it
all. It’s Arm Forces Day and Paul who opens the Air Shows throughout Florida will be jumping with the
American Flag and flares attached to his ankles into the stadium at exactly 5:30 today. It is now 5:00 P.M. It
takes me 20 minutes to get to the stadium. Paul can land on a pie tin from a mile up.

Well, now that that’s over and he is still alive we can proceed with the rest of the report.
Since there is not a lot to report we will mention something that is in keeping with our theme to advance the
revelation that everyone in some degree or another should be able to relate to. On page 30 we find
something indited by a Divine Counselor that should be of personal interest to any spiritual person ever
wondering why they might have had trouble cultivating specific depth relationships, and perhaps even why
they have been unable to recognize something of the original personality – God. Consider the following:

“The prepersonal divine spirit which indwells the mortal mind carries, in its very presence, the valid proof of
its actual existence, but the concept of the divine personality can be grasped only by the spiritual insight of
genuine personal religious experience. Any person, human or divine, may be known and comprehended
quite apart from the external reactions or the material presence of that person.”

“Some degree of moral affinity and spiritual harmony is essential to friendship between two persons; a loving
personality can hardly reveal himself to a loveless person. Even to approach the knowing of a divine
personality, all of man’s personality endowments must be wholly consecrated to the effort; halfhearted, partial
devotion will be unavailing.”

“The more completely man understands himself and appreciates the personality values of his fellows, the
more he will crave to know the Original Personality. You can argue over opinions about God, but experience
with him and in him exists above and beyond all human controversy and mere intellectual logic. The God-
knowing man describes his spiritual experiences, not to convince unbelievers, but for the edification and
mutual satisfaction of believers.”

It has taken me many years to grasp the true meaning of the above statements, especially the part that
reads:
“Moral affinity and spiritual harmony is essential to friendship between two persons; a loving
personality can hardly reveal himself to a loveless person.”
My belief is that this is one of the main reasons
that marriages are put asunder, that husbands and wives often have shallow – terminal relationships.

Two pages over from page 30 one can read the credentials of this Divine Counselor.
